Moral Panic and the Mass Media

Moral panic can be defined in several categories:
Concern.
Hostility.
Consensus.
Disproportional.
Volatility.

Moral panic is a general fear or concern for a thing or a group of people created by the mass media. E.g. Swine flu, Muslims, AIDS etc...
The media tends to sensationalise stories in order to sell their stories, which usually leads to moral panic.
I looked at a story by the guardian, the article described the governments failed attempts to lower drug uses, which also created moral panic. This article was by the Guardian created 22nd May 2003, titled "How Britain is losing the drugs war".
